On this episode of the BeautyChat, I share my top 5 tips beauty shortcuts that are now a key part of my daily beauty regime.

1. Positive Mindset

Hand on heart, if you are feeling negative then no amount of product or special technique is really going to make much difference. A positive outlook can not only make you feel more confident but you’ll look a whole lot brighter and more energetic when you’re wearing your positive pants!

But if you’re anything like me – not everyday starts positively. Maybe you didn’t sleep well, maybe you’re feeling really anxious about the day ahead or maybe your hormones are making life difficult. I get it. That’s my life too! But when I have days like that I know I have to make a concerted effort to channel a positive mindset. And it makes all the difference.

So, pump out some positive affirmation, visualise a calm, successful day – talk yourself up! Yes, you might feel ridiculous but it works!

And if that isn’t enough, look for silver linings. Caught in traffic? Awesome – an opportunity for some more ‘you time’ and a legitimate excuse for being late. Break into a random dance while trying to cajole your kids into the car – tell them a funny joke. Put on a comedy podcast. Do whatever you need to do to get that mindset right!

2. Use a Primer – Always!!

Oh, I wish I had discovered primers a few years ago. They are brilliant. They effectively create an extra layer between your skin and makeup which means they blur and smooth over imperfections! Yes please! They also camouflage wrinkles, dark circles, spots, and fine lines which leaves your skin looking smooth and silky.

I’m currently trialling about 5 primers but my favourite so far is by Australis. It’s The Original Primer and it’s only $17! I love it because it’s also very hydrating, it contains Vitamin A and C derivatives which is great for anti-aging and Honey, Aloe Vera and Cucumber extract that helps retain the skin’s moisture.

Primers help your foundation work harder. And they are a must, particularly if you are in your mid life and still want dewy, luscious looking skin. Who doesn’t?

3. Only Use Gel Eyeliner

Gel eyeliners are very kind to ageing eye lids. And for that I am very grateful! As I head towards 50, my eyelids are not what they used to be. Loose skin is a big feature which makes traditional eyeliner often tricky to apply.

Gel eyeliner glides so beautifully over my ageing eyes and copes with all the little bumps and extra skin. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I’m a fan of Revlon’s gel eyeliners. They are not expensive and come in a great range of colours. The Colorstay Gel Liner is my favourite at the moment. It is waterproof and lasts forever – they promise 16 hours but I would hazard a guess it could be even longer. Big fan here!

4. Spray Dry Shampoo Overnight To Refresh Your Hair

Using dry shampoo overnight is life changing. As you move around in your sleep, it will get worked into your hair so you will wake up with loads of volume and body. Incredible.

Perfect for those days when you just don’t have enough energy to wash and blowdry or when you want to extend your fancy blowdry.

Simply spray all over and massage in before you jump into bed. In the morning, flip your hair over, massage again and boom – beautiful voluminous hair!!

I’m a big fan of the Batiste range of dry shampoo. They aren’t expensive and there’s even one variety dedicated to volume. Gold!

5. Use Translucent Power to Boost Your Eyelashes

There are a multitude of expensive eyelash enhancing products on the market but you know what? You don’t need to use them.

About a year ago, I discovered the power of dusting just a little translucent powder between coast of mascara and I was blown away. I promise, you’ll never look back!

Here’s how it works: apply a coat of mascara to your eyelashes. Using a light, fluffy brush, apply a light coating of translucent powder to your eyelashes. Don’t use too much — you don’t want to make them clumpy. Then cover up that dustiness with another coat of black mascara and voilà — you’ve got thicker looking lashes!

My Favourite Luxe/Less Products

Here is my favourite luxe and less product of the moment:

Less – Maybelline The Falsies Lash Lift Volumizing Mascara – $25 – the best mascara in town! I always keep a stash of these and stock up when they are on special.

Luxe – Inkandi Radiance Elixir Serum for Mature Skin – $49.95 – this serum makes my skin glow. It also contains Sea buckthorn extract which is great for minimising the sings of ageing.
