On this episode of the BeautyChat, I speak with Sydney based Celebrity Skin Care Therapist Ingrid Seaburn about whether skin needling is worth signing up for.

The lovely Ingrid Seaburn

About Ingrid

Ingrid is a former LA based celebrity skincare therapist, health and beauty expert who is now living back in her hometown of Sydney. With over 15 years experience working with some of Hollywood’s biggest A list celebrities, including the Desperate Housewives ladies, she was known as the “go to girl” for great skin!

Since returning to Sydney, Ingrid’s knowledge and expertise on all things health and beauty have seen her contribute to media outlets nationwide, including a regular stint on Network Ten’s Studio Ten as their health and beauty expert. She has a gorgeous studio in Bondi with a devoted list of Aussie celebrity clients.

What is Skin Needling?

I have been so keen to try skin needling but have been so worried about the pain. Ingrid assures me that when a numbing cream is used there is minimal, if any, pain. But it depends on your pain threshold!

Skin needling is when micro needles (on a medical grade roller or pen) are moved over your skin causing evenly spaced punctures on the skin or ‘micro traumas’. These micro-punctures go through the skin with minimal damage to the upper epidermal layer, but creates a microscopic, generally painless injury to the deeper dermal layer

These mini traumas put your body into healing mode so rejuvenation and regeneration occurs. It’s a little like when you scratch or cur yourself, your body recognises this and gathers its resources to help address it.

As a result of the micro traumas. your face will go very red – this is because the body has responded to the trauma and send oxygen rich platelets to the site of the micro traumas to help the wound. This usually settles overnight.

What Are The Benefits?

The fancy name for skin needling is Collagen Induction Therapy – and that really encapsulates exactly what this treatment can do for your skin in the long term – encourage the production of collagen and also elastin – exactly what we need ladies!

In the short term, your skin will glow and radiate. Ingrid has a number of clients who will have this treatment done to ensure their face is glowing for an important social event.

What Does Ingrid Think?

Ingrid believes skin needling is a very effective way of rejuvenating your skin, in both the short and long term. But she believes that the ‘magic happens’ when therapists combine it with both a hyaluronic acid treatment and also growth factors. She believes that it is the combination of these 3 things that brings a truly regenerative result. Ingrid does this in all her skin needling facials.
