Merry Christmas Everyone! Welcome to Book Club and we are going to celebrate Christmas hard today with a deep dive into a Christmas classic – A Christmas Carol by the incredible Charles Dickens.
But bookclub this week is so much more than just a book chat. We talk Christmas food and we even have a musical performance by my guest, the wonderful and uber talented Mandy Newman.
But before we kick off our book chat, I make Mandy try my Christmas salad – a pomegranate and blue cheese salad that exudes Christmas. I think it would make a fabulous partner to Turkey on Christmas day or even seafood if you are opting for a true Aussie feast. You can find the recipe here.
A Christmas Carol
This book is the ultimate Christmas read. Although it was written in 1843, the themes of redemption, compassion and finding the joy in the simple things are more relevant than ever.
This novella is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly and bitter yet successful English business man who is taken on a journey of personal reflection thank to the help of 3 ghosts: The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present and The Ghost of the Christmas Yet to Come.
Alex and Mandy both thoroughly loved this book and think it would be a great introduction to Dickens – as it is only 100 pages long!
I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas
Mandy entertains us with her sultry and emotional rendition of I’m Dreaming a White Christmas with her voice and guitar while I gorge on my new favourite Rocky Road creation – you can find the recipe here. After just 6 months of guitar lessons, I have no doubt there are big things ahead for Miss Mandy. She is truly talented!!
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas. It has been such a joy sharing books, laughs and this wonderful community with you all this year. Sending you all much love and joy for Christmas.
